"Way Down Yonder on the Chatahoochie"

Lucas left for his annual golf trip to Crossville, TN this morning.  We always miss daddy when he is gone but that doesn't keep us from having lots of fun without him!

We took a trip (about 15 mins) to a place on the Chatahoochie River with our neighbors Kyle, Heather, and Kyson.  Everything in the city is expensive so we are always looking for free things to do.  This was a great spot to spend some time with the kids in the water and they loved it.  Not to mention that it was beautiful.  Yes, Atlanta does have pretty places where you can see the moutnains:) Here are a few pictures from our afternoon adventure!
BFFs:  Yay for Kyson finally walking!

She was so excited when she saw the water!

Kyson walking in the "deep" water to his momma.

Laughing at Nali (the dog) fetching a stick in the water.

Finally getting brave.

Beautiful! We are definitely coming back to "float" the river!

Kyson had no fear.  He even went in face first at one point!

What a difference a year makes.

11 Months

23 Months!
This time last year, Layla was taking her first steps using this stroller.  Now she is off and running with it!

lots of kisses!

This past weekend, we headed back to TN to celebrate with Lucas's sister Abbey as she graduated from high school.  Abbey was 8 when Lucas and I started dating so this just proved how FAST time has gown by.  I got a little teary eyed during her graduation thinking that in a second we were going to be watching Layla do the same thing.  Abbey has become a beautiful, smart, talented young lady and I know that God is going to bless her in whatever path she chooses from here.  Good Luck Abbey!  We love you!

A weekend in TN also meant a lot of family time!  When we stay at my parents, Layla is always in heaven because of all the animals.  I just wanted to share a few pics from our trip!
She looks so big in this chair!

I Love Daddy

Layla and Lucas were walking outside today and he said "I Love Layla" and her response was "I love daddy".

No rehearsal.
Just conversation.

I look forward to many more conversations like these only next time an "I love momma".:)

Book Obsession

ALL Layla wants to do is read books.  I honestly think at this moment I could clear the house of every other toy and she wouldn't even notice.  On our walk to the park the other day, we stopped by the library to check out some more books for her.  When we got to the playground (which she loves) all she wanted to do was sit on the bench and read her new books.  So, we packed it up and went home and sat in the AC:) She loves to stack the books into one huge stack and then we sit and go through them one by one.  She is very particular about her stack and sometimes when it falls we have to "manage the meltdown".  Fortunately, when Lucas or I have other things going on, she is content to sit and read to kitty.  I love to listen because her emphasis is always just like mine and she points out all the same pics to kitty as well.  She is such a little momma.

Reading to kitty

Realized I was taking pics. And yes she has my lipstick on in this pic:)

See the huge stack?  That takes skills.

Quick Catch Up!

I am a little behind on a blog posts so here is a quick run down on what has been going on! Let's go back to our weekend in Murfreesboro, April 29th-May 1st. Layla and I made the trip because I had signed up to run the Music City Half Marathon with a long time friend, Jessica Williams. This was my 2nd half (last one in Oct.) and I had very small expectations because the most I ran in training was 8 miles, two Saturdays in a row prior to the race. I would not recommend this kind of training, but I was just slacking and got behind. We had a perfect day to run and I ended up loving the course, hills and all! I felt great until mile 12 where I stopped to walk for one minute which was a mistake because my legs then became jello. But I kept going and finished in 2:19:33 which was about 4 minutes faster than I was in October.
These were my stats:
Overall Pace: 10:39
5K time: 29:53
10K time: 1:01:50
10 Mile time: 1:42:34
Overall I was # 9,259 out of 21,944 runners.
As I had mentioned before I am training for a 10K on July 4th and I broke my goal during this race for that so I will be reevaluating how fast I think I can be. My next race is this Saturday (5K) and my goal for that is to beat 29:00. It's pretty hilly & hot so we shall see if that happens.

Jessica and I after the race

Enough about me. On to the cute member of our family.
After the half on Saturday, the Kairdolf family had their annual crawfish boil. That meant playtime for the cousins and relaxing time for the adults. As always it was super yummy and made me thankful to be married into a cajun family:)
Yummy!

Layla loves her Granna!

These two are just so darn cute.  Playing with trains.

I was worried how the trip would affect Layla's potty training, but overall she did pretty well. I am glad to report that huge improvements have been made since the last update. She is no longer going on the potty in the pantry. She is now in panties full time wherever we go, even Music Class with the carpet. Her fear of public potties has gone away for the most part which makes being away from home possible. Of course there are still accidents but she is about 90% on the potty. I still have to prompt her or just take her to the bathroom. Sometimes she has peed just a tad in her panties and stopped it and said "potty" so at least she is trying to give me a heads up. I am so proud of her and how quickly she has caught on. Layla really has made being a momma easy:)

We have been enjoying this warmer weather and spending a lot of time outside with our friends. Sunscreen included, of course.

Playing in the water at Piedmont Park.  Weren't prepared with bathing suit.  Lucas called her a redneck:)

Some of my Stroller Stride friends at the beautiful Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Testing out the headphones in the car.  She finally got brave enough to put them on.

At our neighborhood play group on the hottest day of the year.  This is not her bike and helmet but perhaps she needs one:)

This last bit is for my granddad who enjoys Atlanta Braves baseball. We came upon some free tickets, so we got a sitter and Lucas and I had a date night. We had great seats, almost caught a foul ball, and the weather was perfect. I see many more fun times at Braves games when Layla and our future kids are older:)
Happy Friday the 13th Everyone!
Stadium was so empty!

Love this man:)

22 Months flew by!

Layla entered her 23rd month on May 1st. I can't believe she will be 2 in a month. I have realized that I am a lot less emotional about the 2 year birthday than I was the 1 year birthday. I just can't believe it is coming up so FAST! Since we just finished month 22, here is what life was like....

Not sure about weight or height but I guess about 30 pounds and she is still "tall".
Using the potty full time at home. Still have to prompt her and she still hates public toilets.
She has now cut 16 teeth which means we have a break until the 2 year molars:)
Her eating has been much better this month as she has become more adventurous.
We registered for her 4th session of Music Class which she loves. Also registered for first semester of dance that starts in June.
Her love of books has become an obsession. That is the only thing she wants to do.
Sleeps 12/13 hours at night and naps 1.5-2.5 hours.
She uses possession a lot. Like: Daddy's car, momma's shirt, Layla's drink.
Her eczema can barely be seen now.
Attempts to sing along to songs. (Very Cute)
She can walk up and down our 16 stairs with very little assistance.
We are almost out of Barney phase. THANK. GOD.
New favorite movie is Leap Frog Letter Factor.
And thanks to the movie, when prompted she can tell you what most letters "say".
She can say a lot of colors, but when asked, everything is green.
She navigates my iphone and ipad better than I do.
Her hair once again is untamable in this humidity. Curly. Curly.
Loves retrieving daddy's golf balls when he is chipping in the backyard.
She has a very passive personality: Allows everyone down the slide first and gives away all of her instruments in music class.
And
Layla continues to show her daddy and I a kind of love that we had never imagined.
We are so blessed to be her parents.
