Silas's 2 Month Stats

Month 2

Here's what you are doing this month.

Eating: I have bumped up your schedule getting you closer to that 7pm-7am sleep schedule.  During the day you eat every three hours (6:30am, 9:30am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm, 6:30pm, and 9:30pm). After the 9:30pm feeding, I let you sleep until you wake up.  You have become a very efficient eater.  You nurse no more than about 15 minutes and you pull off on each side when you are finished.  You are very easy to burp, usually you let one out without even a pat.  You have began spitting up some, perhaps because you eat so fast! Your pooping schedule has slowed down (thank goodness!).  You are pooping usually once a day or every other day.

Sleeping: After recovering from a terrible cold that lasted about 3 weeks, I finally decided to move you into your room at night, which means you are upstairs.  You had been napping just fine in there during the day but I wasn't quite ready for the transition at night. At 8 weeks, you finally dropped your middle of the night feedings, which means your are sleeping immediately after your 9:30pm feeding until about 5:30/6:30am.  YAY!!!! You sometimes cry out about 3:30am but all you want is your paci and you are right back asleep.  You are also still napping after every feeding during the day.  From the time you start eating and then go back to bed, you are usually awake about an hour.  All you have to do is let out one little cry and that signals to me that you are ready.  I give you your paci and down you go until the next feeding time!  You also still prefer your belly.

Wake Time activities: You love your play mat!! If you are awake, your arms and legs are constantly moving!  You were a mover in my belly so it is no surprise to me.  I am also getting tons of smiles and even a "coo" here and there! You like to be held over the shoulder, perhaps so you can see everything. Whoever is holding you has to hold tight because you try to buck out of our arms! Layla is giving you plenty of hugs and kisses and I love how you already respond to her voice.

Milestones this month:
* Sleeping through the night!
*Starting to "talk".

Statistics from the dr:
Weight: 12lbs 4oz 69th%
Length: 23 3/4 84th%
Head: 15 1/2 inches 31st %

You are wearing a couple size 3 clothes but are mainly in 3-6mths. I still have you squeezing into size 1 diapers because I have a ton!!

Silas's birth story and one month stats

Birth Story
I was scheduled for induction at 8am on April 22, 2013, which was also your due date. Your daddy and I arrived at the hospital a little before 8 to get to get checked in.  Our nurse for the day was Deborah, who was very sweet with a laid back personality.  The pitocin drip began about 9am, and induction was officially underway.  Contractions picked up but were very mild until about 1pm when Dr. Cox decided to break my water.  At the time she broke my water, I had gone from 2cm of dilation to about 4cm.  Shortly after my water broke, I received an epidural.  Although, he had to stick me twice, the pain subsided pretty quickly, which was a relief.  As time passed, I progressed from 4 to 7cm and then the pain began. I had intense back pain during my contractions and it seemed as if the epidural had totally worn off. I asked for a bolus of pain medicine through my epidural but the pain was still very intense.  Not long after all of the pain, the doctor came back and I was completely dilated and ready to begin pushing.  It was about 8:30 pm when I began my practice pushes.  Your heart rate remained so strong throughout the entire process.  At 8:58pm, I held you in my arms for the first time and you were just perfect! You came out screaming and the doctor immediately stated that she thought you were over 8lbs.  We later found out that she was right! You weighed in at 8lbs 2oz and 20 1/4 inches long.  You also had a head full of black hair just like your big sister!

We had not decided your name, but had narrowed it down to two: Wyatt and Silas.  We knew the middle name would be Paul because it is a family name.  You are the forth generation Kairdolf male to inherit that name.  I decided that your daddy would decide your name once we saw you.  He got so excited when you were here that he went to announce to the family that you were here and forgot to name you!  Of course, that was everyones first question, "What is his name??". Your daddy then came back and looked at you and decided that your name would be Silas, which means "companion".  We are so thankful that Layla has you as a forever companion.

1 Month

We took you back to the doctor a day after you left the hospital to recheck your jaundice levels and they were decreasing so you did't have to go back until your 1 month check up.

Here's what you are doing this month.

Eating: You are nursing every 3 hours during the day and after your 9pm feeding, I let you sleep until you wake up. At this age, it takes you about 30 minutes to eat.  By week four, your eating shedule was 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, and 9pm.  You would usually wake up between 1:30am-2:30am to eat, go back to sleep and then start your day at 5:30 or 6am.  What goes in must come out and you are very efficient in the pooping area!  It literally sounds like you are blowing your pants off every time!

Sleeping: The first couple of weeks you would usually snuggle in bed with me after the middle of the night feeding but by week three, you were sleeping in your bassinet in our room all night.  During the day, you would nap 1.5-2.5 hours between every feeding.  Just like your sister, you prefer to sleep on your belly!

Wake Time activites: The first couple of weeks you were still in what I like to call the "newborn coma".  During week three you really began to wake up and explore your surroundings.  You started making good eye contact, even going cross eyed at times trying to focus.

Milestones this month:
* Beginning to love your paci (Yay!)
* Rolled from belly to back during nap time...might have just been coincidence but as active as you are, who knows!
* SMILING!  Definitely one of my favorite milestones ever!  You smiled at me severeal times starting in the third week when I would talk sweet to you.
* On a predictable eating and sleeping schedule.

Statistics from the dr:
Weight: 9lbs 12.5ounces- 49th percentile
Length: 22 inches- 81st percentile
Head: 14 5/8 inches- 62nd percentile

You are still fitting in newborn clothes (Barely!) and I have moved you up to a size 1 in diapers.

Big Potty Milestone

Last night was a notable night in the Kairdolf household.  Layla has been night time potty trained for about a year now and up until this point whenever she needed to go potty in the middle of the night, she insisted on getting one of us to go with her even though she was perfectly capable of doing it herself.

Well, this morning about 4:45am, I heard her little feet hit the floor (her bedroom is right above mine) and I thought, "oh no here she comes to tell me to take her potty".  So, I kept listening for her feet to come down the stairs and I never heard any.  As I listened, I noticed that I heard some movement but then I heard the step stool to her bed scratch the floor which meant she was crawling back in bed.  All was quiet so I went back to sleep and was awoken at about 5 after 7:00.

She then volunteered the info that she had gone potty "all by myself" and then had crawled back in bed and went back to sleep.  We made such a big deal about it all day with everyone we saw that hopefully it will be a trend that will continue.  I sure hate for her to grow up sometimes but then we have moments of independence like this that are so nice!!

Big Girl, Big Bed!

Layla returned today from her week stay in Tennessee with both sets of grandparents. I know she had a blast but like anyone else, I know she is also happy to be home!  We decided to leave the nursery in the same room at the back of the house and because Layla was still in that room, sleeping in her converted crib, it meant she had to move!  When she got home, I surprised her with her new room.  She loves it!  I asked which room she liked better, and she quickly said, "My new one!".  When it came time for nap, she also asked if she could sleep in her new bed.  Although, I could easily get emotional about this transition, her excitement means that she is ready and I guess I better be too:).  More pictures to come on her new room.  Lucas gets in tomorrow and I have a few things he has to hang up.
Happy Thursday everyone!

28 1/2 Weeks Yay for the 3rd trimester!

Our life in 2013

Our family had a great year in 2012.  It wasn't great because it was easy but it was great because of what we learned about ourselves, each other, and the God that we serve.  I think that my study through the book of Joshua was the perfect place to find myself over the past year.  After Moses died, Joshua was assigned by God to lead the Israelites into the Promise Land.  Just as the Israelites were met face to face with their trust in God, I found myself in a similar place over the past year.  I found myself and my family in a place that I would never choose to be.  It was a place of discomfort and I often found myself wondering whether God was even near.  At times, he appeared distant and silent and there were moments when I wanted to step out of my own journey to the promise land and catch a direct flight home.

As 2013 has arrived, God's goodness has been all around.  No, we have not reached our Promise Land yet but God has been revealing each step day by day.  He is a trustworthy God, he does have a plan for us and sometimes he makes our circumstances of life a little uncomfortable so that he can come through in a way that makes us know without a doubt that it is him.  I still am not sure the direction our life will take but I do know God will tell us at his appropriate time.  I know that my marriage is stronger than ever and that my faith has been shaken and put back together so it is now stronger than ever.  I am declaring 2013 as the year God will start to bring to fruition his promises from the past year and even years before that.

Joshua 21:43-45
So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their forefathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.  The Lord gave them rest of every side, just as he had sworn to their forefathers.  Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord handed all their enemies over to them.  Not one of all the Lord's good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
